I've been knitting for over 20 years, and decided to start making my own patterns in the last year or so just for fun. I had little things I wanted to try or make that I couldn't find, so I tried to do it myself. Now I'm slowly learning how to make patterns that other people can use. I enjoy learning new things and sharing in the knitting community. This page is where I will share my patterns!
I love birdwatching and nature, so the name Ruddy Tufty Knits is playing with bird names.
My patterns and all sample photos are proudly made without the use of AI of any kind. No text, graphics, pictures, editing, revisions, ideas, or anything else uses AI. The low vision versions are made with LibreOffice and the standard versions are made with Inkscape. I take photos with the phone app ProShot, which allows me to take photos without unintended modifications or beautification. I may crop photos or manually apply a blur to reflections or items not meant to be the focus. I try to use as little editing as possible to ensure the result looks as much like the real knitted item as possible.
Stay Put Coaster
This is a pattern for a square cup or mug coaster with a flat middle and a decorative border. We have had a lot of coasters and I'm never happy with them. They get sticky from spills, or when there is condensation the cup slides around or sticks to the coaster. I decided to knit some coasters out of polypropylene yarn so that my cups never stick to my coaster. Polypropylene is not a soft, cozy yarn and it is a bit rough to knit with. However, it can be fun to use because it is bendy and holds its shape. Most importantly though, the coaster stays put on the table! This is not a reversible coaster, so there is a side intended to face up, and a side intended to face down, where the ends are weaved in. This is shown in the sample photos.
